    Notes
The Industrial History of BHP originated in the late 1960s as a study for a mural commissioned by BHP for the ground floor of its then-new office building on Bourke Street, Melbourne. The work was created as part of a proposal presented to the BHP Board but was rejected. To compensate Pro Hart, BHP Board offered $1500. Dissatisfied with the amount, Hart requested $3,000 which the Board declined and the painting returned to Pro Hart's storage (his garage) until it was re-discovered in 1972 during a visit to Pro Hart's home gallery in Broken Hill. Before the sale, Hart cleaned the painting and recounted its vivid history, underscoring both its artistic origins and the contentious circumstances that led to its long obscurity.
