New Zealand ''All Blacks'' Rugby Honour Cap 1905, the cap has been embroidered with the first use of the Silver Fern, and separately sewn ''Australia 1905'' to denote the three games played in Australia in July 1905, before the tour to England. The only other known 1905 cap is Jum Turtill''s cap (Roger Jones auction March 1, Lot 1), Turtill only playing once against Australia. Probably owned by George Gillett, whose surname appears inside cap. Gillet played Australian Rules for Western Australia after the Boer War, 25 of the 35 games in the original 1905 All-Blacks itinerary, including 3 in Australia. After Tests for New Zealand in 1908, he changed codes and represented Australasia for their tour of England in 1911-12, later coaching theis New Zealand Rugby League team. Rare.
