  • Provenance: Maureen Nampijinpa Hudson is a renowned Warlpiri artist from Mount Barkley (Yuelamu), an Aboriginal-owned cattle station northwest of Alice Springs. She grew up between Yuelamu and the Yuendumu settlement, where she attended school before returning to work as a teaching assistant.

She began painting in 1981, influenced by senior Warlpiri artists including her cousin, the celebrated Clifford Possum Tjapaltjarri. Her Dreaming stories originate from Warlukurlangu, her father's and grandfather's Country and include Emu, Fire, Kanmarra (Bush Onion), and Women's Ceremony stories inherited from her mother's cultural leadership.

Maureen's art is characterised by strong topographical forms, sandhills, waterways, and ceremonial motifs that reflect her profound relationship with Country. She refers to painting as her "first love" and blends tradition with an innovative visual language.

A respected cultural custodian, Maureen continues to produce works that honour Warlpiri law, landscape, and women's ceremony, influencing younger generations—including her daughters Jillian and Gwenda.
