signed and titled lower right, with dedication "For Janet" | Literature: Good Weekend (The Sydney Morning Herald and The Age), September 4, 1993 (cover image) | "In July 1993, John Olsen and I spent 10 days travelling through drought parched south-west Queensland, documenting in words and pictures their worst drought in memory, no rain for three years. Farmers were walking off their now worthless, debt- ridden properties, and weeping as they shot their starving sheep. In a pub in the town of Dingo, we met a weather-beaten bush character, his face lined with such deep creases, the locals reckoned his face "would hold three days of rain when it starts again." Olsen was profoundly moved by the drought ravaged landscape and the stoic bush characters we met, he made numerous paintings and drawings as we travelled. Olsen later painted a larger version of this work, which is in a Private Collection." - Janet Hawley | This lot comes with a copy of Good Weekend Magazine with feature story.
