  • Provenance: Jeannie Mills Pwerle, from Utopia in Central Australia, is a highly regarded contemporary Indigenous artist. Her traditional country is Irrwelty and Atnwengerrp. Jeannie comes from a renowned artistic lineage—her mother Dolly Mills Petyarre and uncle Greeny Purvis Petyarre are celebrated artists, and her great-aunt was the late Emily Kame Kngwarreye, one of Australia's most influential modern painters.

Jeannie paints the Anaty (Bush Yam) Dreaming, a story inherited from her mother. Her works depict the yam's root system through intricate linear patterns and its seeds with fine dotting, using harmonious layers of color that create movement and depth. This Dreaming honors the yam's cultural and ecological significance, encouraging its regeneration.

Although other Utopian artists share this Dreaming, Jeannie's style is distinctive and instantly recognizable. Her paintings, with their shifting tones and delicate detail, are highly sought after for their beauty and versatility. Jeannie also serves her community as a traditional healer and cultural educator.
