JAMES COOK (1904-1960) - Portrait of an Australian Soldier c1942 44 x 34 cm


  • Notes: This portrait of an unknown Australian solider was probably carried out by Cook when with the Australian Comforts Fund in New Guinea and the Pacific from 1942. Cook was resident in London, 1939, and made an accredited war artist by the Ministy of Information. In 1942 Cook was appointed as official artist to the Australian Comforts Fund in an honorary capacity. He served in New Guinea and in the S.W. Pacific and did painting and sketches used for publicity including a mural for the War Memorial Fund.
