Notes: From a sketch by Major G. F. White, H.M. 31st Regiment. Hand-coloured engraving. Engraved by J. Harris and published London, April 5th 1849 by Rudolph Ackerman.
The Battle of Ferozshah, December 21st -22nd, 1845 was to determine the fate of British rule in India. The British forces were fighting the Sikhs and after the first day some British leaders talked of surrendering. However, the Commander in Chief and the Governor General, pressed on and the British forces re-engaged on 22nd December. Had the British surrendered the history of India today would be very different.
