Notes: inscribed verso: No. 4 original painting from a battlefield sketch. Frank Crozier, official artist with A.I.F
Crozier enlisted in the 1st Australian Infantry Force March 15, 1915. He became a member of the topographical section of the 22nd Battalion and served in Egypt and Gallipoli where he worked on the ANZAC book. From 21st January, 1917, Crozier was transferred to the Australian Corps and July 1917 saw him serving as "runner" to Brigadier-General John Gellibrand. He became an official war artist at the A.I.F with the rank of Lieutenant in September 1918.
