    Vernon Samuel Charles Jones born in Melbourne was display manager for T.S Gill and Son P/L South Yarra from 1930 where Albert Tucker was his assistant. He became Australia wide artist for Fayrefield Hats until late 1940. There he employed Sidney Nolan (1934 - 38). From 1942 - 1945 JOnes as an unofficial war artist produced an amazing group of RAAF paintings in the South West Pacific. The subjects included 165 portraits of such major figures as the fighter ace Group Captain (later Air Commodore) Edwin (Ted) Fyfe. He also painted sky battles, landings and finely observed drawings. He has been recognised by a retrospective exhibition at the Shrine of Remeberance , Melbourne 2005-06, opened by Geoffrey Blainey.
