Notes: Details below provided by Austen Deans:
"Painted at a POW camp called Graudenz (Polish Grudienz) in North West Poland when the YMCA along with the Red Cross was able to supply oil paints. I was extremely lucky in that a visiting Red Cross representative took 116 varied works and they were later exhibited by the Red Cross in London and eventually Christchurch, New Zealand. Over 300 works stayed behind and were lost. I grew the beard when I had no means of a razor."
