"Jesse Martin was an Englishman who had emigrated to Australia and joined the Australian Forces. He was a brilliant draughtsman and a fine colourist, but had more than his fair share of temperament and never made the grade he was capable of. He finished up back in England after the war and I presume has died as all correspondence with him and an Australian artist who did make good, Justin O''Brien, ceased about ten years ago." A.
