- Notes: From arrival with the New Zealand Division of the Western Front, April 1916, the Maori Pioneers participated in many of the major British offensives. They gained a reputation as fearless participants and like the other troops suffered from German gas, artillery and snipers. Re-named the New Zealand (Maori) Pioneer Battalion on 15th September, 1917, they took part in the major offensive at Messines.
