Onsite Auctions

Over the past century the family owned company of Lawsons sold many of the finest collections at Sydney’s gracious homes including 'On Site' auctions at Toft Monks. Notable collections sold included the Burdekin House sale in 1922, the Norman Sheuruck collection in 1963, the Sim Rubensohn collection at Kelvin Lodge in 1973 and the Lloyd Jones collection at Rosemont Woollahra in 1981, the Collection of Amana Finley and Sir Peter and Lady Finley in Point Piper in April 2003, The Estate of the Late Dr. Geoffrey Davis at the Abbey, Annandale in May 2009 and The Sale of the Contents of 'Foxlow', an historic homestead (read more) (watch ABC News video) and The Contents of a Grand Home in Berrima (read more) to name but a few.

In recent times there has been an increase in the amount of onsite home contents auctions as a lifestyle choice rather than due to the traditional reasons associated with necessity. Many clients who are downsizing or redecorating, choose to auction the entire contents of their homes rather than placing items into storage or trying to make them fit into a new home.

The sale of the entire contents of a home on the premises has obvious benefits to both buyer and seller alike. For the buyer it is a wonderful opportunity to view the items in the setting of a home and therefore make a buying decision based on a contextual feeling as well as gaining first hand knowledge of the provenance of a collection or individual piece.

For the seller the benefits of inviting Lawsons to conduct a contents sale on the premises include avoiding handling and transportation to the saleroom and a heightened interest in the items when sold in period locations. Our Home Contents Sales are held on weekends attracting additional members of the public who are not traditional auction room attendees during the working week.
