The Chapman Grove Wines philosophy is to strive to produce the best possible fruit from which to create world-class wines. Varieties best suited to the Margaret River climate are grown, and French oak is used to bring out the flavour of the terroir producing a true expression of the region. With award-winning wines across multiple price points under the Chapman Grove and Atticus Labels, Chapman Grove offers a wide variety and great opportunity for the consumer to taste the best that Margaret River has to offer.

As a wine retailer and lover of fine wines, Ron Fraser recognised many years ago the potential of the Margaret River region to produce great wine. After a long search for the perfect location, Ron finally found a vineyard that he believed would produce the premium-quality grapes he needed to support his vision and planting commenced in the newly established Chapman Grove Vineyard in 1997. After selling fruit to the local wineries for the first five vintages, Ron felt that the vines were mature enough to start to produce high-quality fruit. With Winemaker Bruce Dukes, he set out to craft the unique wines that he felt the vineyard was capable of producing.

Pale yellow – youthful – green tinges, which I equate with quality young chardonnay.
Aromatics are instantly very serious.  Intense fruit – nectarines and white peaches melding with lemon citrus – beautiful French oak hovering just above the wine at the moment – intense – more than a cursory nod to Burgundy.  The tiniest whiff of sulphides – perfect for a wine of this age. When sipped, the wine shows it’s incredible intensity, no doubt derived from the very low yield.

Vibrant in the glass – deep purple with bright red edges. The nose is complex and expressive.  A mix of red /  blue / purple fruits – the blend of varieties reflected in the broader spectrum.  Oak – though present – is not imposing itself.  Remarkably fragrant.  Savoury notes in the tobacco and cedar zone add interest. Complex structure and great length created by the blend of varieties, a wine to try now but also one to cellar.

Lone Quince Range:
The Lone Quince range of wines is dedicated to the memory of the original settlers – WW1 soldiers who cleared and farmed the land to forge a future for themselves. In 1925 they planted this tree and we honoured that history by developing the vineyard around it. The Lone Quince is a monument to all who have toiled on this land. Enjoy this wine in their memory.
 
2016 Lone Quince Cabernet Merlot
‘A wine with high cheek bones’… Cabernet Sauvignon 86% | Merlot 14%
Purple with crimson edges – looks serious in the glass. Tobacco  leaf – feint cassis –   purple plums – a complex nose which adds weight to the “serious” theme. Quality Margaret River Cabernet leads the charge here.  Just ripe cabernet gives this sinew and poise. Merlot is subservient –  almost hard to detect. Terrific wine, at almost twice the price - Ron Chapman, Owner and Winemaker Chapman Grove

2017 Lone Quince Sauvignon Blanc Semillon
‘A wine with everything in its right place’…
Sauvignon Blanc 72% | Semillon 28% No surprises with the colour – Pale yellow with green edges. Hallmark citrus and grass / nettle-driven aromatics – there’s a tease of white stone fruits – but unmistakably the classic Margaret River Blend. The palate shows balance – concentration of ripe fruit – and more than a little texture. I won’t wax lyrical – as it doesn’t command that style of critique.  Everything in its right place – it’s a lovely glass of wine - Ron Chapman, Owner and Winemaker Chapman Grove

2016 Chapman Grove Reserve Chardonnay
This wine is attractive with aromas of almond, cashew and peach and fine oak on the nose. Citrus flavours balanced with a honey type viscosity dominate the palate. Long length and classy acidity sees the wine finish off with power and delicacy in balance.
Drink to 2025.

2014 Chapman Grove Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon
91 Points – James Halliday Wine Companion

Machine harvested, crushed and de-stemmed, pressed to French oak (25% new, the balance with staves) for 14 months. This wine is a beautiful deep rich red colour, which is an indication of the depth of fruit flavour in the wine. Shows typical regional characters of cedar, bramble and char on the nose with a long finish on the palate, wrapped up with fine-grained tannins. Drink to 2029.

2014 Chapman Grove Reserve Shiraz
92 Point - James Halliday Wine Companion
Deep intense red colour with pretty perfumed nose of black fruit, hints of forest floor and spicy oak influence.  Loads of mid-palate fruit weight, this wine shows great length and complexity with firm yet velvety tannins completing the structure. Drink to 2020.

2016 Chapman Grove Reserve Sauvignon Blanc
The colour is pale straw with a subtle green tinge, and the nose expresses such characteristics as nettles, limes, guava and tropical fruits, which combine to produce a complex nose, which is enhanced with some butterscotch lees characters.              
The palate is vibrant and fresh with a lovely concentration of tropical and subtle terpene flavours. The wine finishes with persistence and a lingering attractive textural flavour.

2013 Chapman Grove Estate Cabernet Merlot
This is a 60-40 Blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. The wine is elegant and refined showing a clear red-purple colour; a fresh, bright and breezy wine, with red fruits to the fore and balanced tannins to hold the structure together.

2016 Chapman Grove Estate Semillon Sauvignon Blanc

The colour is pale straw, with an attractive green tinge, and the nose is perfumed vibrant and fresh. This Semillon Sauvignon Blanc shows some lovely white tropical fruits, with subtle grassy overtones. The Palate is lively and generous, with some tropical fruits and lychee flavours which persist in the mid palate, and finish with a subtle lanolin.
 
2017 Chapman Grove Estate Rose
Bright and vibrantly rich in colour with a lovely perfume and hints of wild raspberries dusted with icing sugar and cloves on the nose. This is a drier style of rose with a full and vibrant palate showcasing powerful summer fruit flavours and enough acidity to enable it to be matched with a variety of dishes. 





SIMON WHITLAM & CO – HUNTER VALLEY (NSW)


Formed in the late 1970s from the friendship between banker Nicholas Whitlam and Andrew Simon, owner of the very successful specialist wine merchant Camperdown Cellars, the Simon Whitlam brand has continued to shine in the wine arena. Initially forecasting the huge interest in Beaujolais, Simon Whitlam became Australia’s second largest Beaujolais Importer and a key player in establishing an understanding of this individual style of light, refreshing red wine from France.

Soon afterwards, the full temptation of establishing a boutique Australian wine brand won and the now famous Simon Whitlam style was created with the first vintage in 1983. Gold, Trophies and Medals flowed whenever the wines were exhibited, and the richly flavoured Chardonnay became a bechmark style in Australia with the plump, / buttery/ honeyed character supported by generous use of French and American oaks coming to be regarded among the top 5 Chardonnays in this country.

More recently, Nicholas and Andrew were able to regain control of this famous Australian brand and begin the steps to again bring it to glory as a boutique wine producer with the launch of 4 exceptional individual wines in 2008.

2014 Simon Whitlam & Co Hunter Valley Chardonnay
A well-structured Chardonnay with a future – very enjoyable now.
This wine is a lightly wooded Chardonnay that is straw in colour with aromas of peach and nectarines. The tight palate displays rockmelon and peach flavours. It finishes fresh and zesty.

2012 Simon Whitlam & Co Hunter Valley Semillon
A good example of a Hunter Semillon displaying some aged characters.
The aromas of citrus in its early life is giving way to aged Semillon characters of lanolin and beeswax. On the palate we find honey and beeswax that give it a great palate weight and it finishes clean and lively.

2009 Simon Whitlam & Co Hunter Valley Shiraz
An example of a medium bodied Hunter Shiraz with some maturity.
This wine has elegant red and dark fruit aromas. On the palate the fruit gives way to earthy tones that are balanced with soft yet assertive tannins.

2011 Simon Whitlam & Co Hunter Valley Merlot
Subtle style of a mature Merlot. Drinking well now…
This Merlot displays aromas of blackberry and stewed plums, on the palate it reveals subtle flavours of spice and a chocolate vanilla that integrated with balanced and soft tannins that is really drinking well now.

Simon Whitlam & Co Sparkling White NV
A stylish sparkling wine for all occasions.
The palate shows rich fruits, soft, full flavours and complex yeast characters while the ‘apple green’ aroma is superb fresh, vinous and herbaceous. A perfect celebration or food style produced from selected parcels of fruits grown in the South Eastern Australia.

Fresh blackberry fruit and oak characters appear on the bouquet and repeat on the palate.
The rich, ripe fruit sweetness is balanced by lively, natural tannin and acids to deliver a fresh and lively sparkling wine with lingering yeasty and fruit flavours. Crafted from mainly Shiraz fruit grown in premium wine districts of South Eastern Australia- serve chilled.





TAYLORS – CLARE VALLEY (SA)


We rest on the principle that the finest wines are those made with the greatest dedication and care. Above all our imperative is to ‘respect the fruit’.

Inspired by the great producers of Bordeaux, and with a vision to craft wines that rival the best in the world, the Taylor family begin an exploration in the 1950’s, across the wine regions of Australia to find the perfect plot of land on which to establish their family estate. On July 20, 1969, their quest brought them to a site by the Wakefield River in South Australia's Clare Valley. And on the same day that Neil Armstrong takes man's first steps onto the moon, Bill Taylor takes his first steps on the soil that will eventually become the family estate. It is also in this same location, during excavation of the vineyards first dam, that they discovered tiny seahorses in the limestone bedrock – and hence adopted this symbol as the Taylor’s Wine Brand.

Why three seahorses? To salute the three generations of Taylors family winemakers.

The first Taylor’s wines were released in 1973, and after the expansion of the estate in 1994, through acquiring the land opposite the original vineyard site, Taylors became Australia’s largest continuous vineyard.

The Promised Land Series:
“Something special happened the day we dug our first vineyard dam. Tiny fossilised seahorses were unearthed, a discovery that showed the promise of the land and its fertile soils. Today, these seahorses are proudly featured on our Promised Land labels as a symbol of quality.”

The name actually comes from one of those classic over the fence chats that neighbours have. It was 1969, Bill Taylor had just established his vineyards and he was already looking beyond those borders to expand the Clare Valley estate. His neighbour to the east had a beautiful patch of land with gentle rolling hills and soils perfect for grape growing.

Bill went to visit him and struck a deal that he'd be the one to purchase the land should he ever decide to sell it. The neighbour kept his promise and that section of the estate became forever known as 'The Promised Land'. The rich Terra Rossa soils kept their promise too and have consistently produced award-winning wines over the years.

These days, the Promised Land wines have got such a big following but are still typically Taylors though; award winning quality, smooth, easy drinking and of course amazing value!

2015 Taylors ‘The Promised Land’ Shiraz
A soft and fleshy Shiraz boasting a lively palate of juicy red berry fruits, plum and spice, along with subtle chocolate and savoury characters from the oak maturation.

The colour is a deep red with purple hues and the nose has vibrant aromas of red currant, plum and a touch of spice. The palate – a well-balanced medium bodied wine with a lively palate of juicy red berry fruits, fine gentle tannins and a soft silky finish.
This is an immediately approachable wine that exhibits all the hallmarks of classic Australian Shiraz with a core of rich varietal fruit and a vibrant spicy character that just begs to be drunk!

The colour at release, is very pale with a light green tinge. The nose is fresh, with lifted tropical fruit aromas of guava and passion fruit along with zesty lemon and a hint of freshly cut grass. The palate is a smooth, mouth-filling palate with subtle lemon, lime and juicy passion fruit flavours, finishing clean with refreshing acidity. This is the perfect ‘thirst-quencher’ wine. The refreshing tropical fruit and crisp acidity make it the perfect foil to warmish weather when you just want to enjoy a glass of something light, bright and breezy.

The colour is a pale straw with a slightly green tinge. The nose is fresh, lifted aromas of yellow peach, along with some subtle tropical fruit characters and a touch of lemony citrus. The palate is a medium weight with fleshy yellow peach, subtle pineapple and citrus flavours. There is a refreshing, tight acidity and a lovely clean finish.

This wine shows the pure vibrant fruit characters of Chardonnay without the influence of oak. It is an easy drinking, ‘any occasion’ wine that is enjoyable on its own or partnered with a fresh salad.


 


HAPPS – MARGARET RIVER (WA)


Back in the 1970s two young teachers named Erl and Ros Happ were inspired to plant a wide range of grape varieties in the Margaret River region. This pioneering spirit has paid off; today the estate vineyards produce more than 30 grape varieties and a comprehensive portfolio of wines sold nationally and exported around the world.

A distinctive feature of the Happs winery history is the family’s artistic flair and ongoing patronage of the arts. Erl and Ros built the onsite workshop and gallery as a space to create in themselves as well as a showcase of local talent. Over the years many potters, artists, jewellers, sculptors and musicians have used Happs as a home for their creativity and talent. Along with many, the HAPPS are believers that great wines are made in the vineyard. Their entire range is produced from estate grown fruit and their two vineyard locations offer a diversity of soil type and climatic influence.

The Indigenous Series - The iSeries Wines:
The iSeries of wines celebrates the concept that it is possible to create something that embodies a sense of place. Just as an aboriginal painting is intrinsically tied to a defined landscape, these wines are natural expressions of the ancient land from which they are shaped.

2016 HAPPS ‘iSeries’ Merlot
A classic grape variety from Bordeaux, in fact the most widely planted in Bordeaux and also at Three Hills vineyard. Medium red with a red blue hue in colour. This wine displays attractive characters of red currant, cranberry, purple jubes and tomato leaf with subtle eucalypt, camphor and floral notes. Also displays intense sweet fruit with flavours of raspberry, green cherry, and plum skin with hints of choc mint, capsicum and black berry. The palate is soft and chalky with good persistence. Perfect for day to day drinking.

2017 HAPPS ‘iSeries’ Pinot Noir
“Pinot Noir is the next wine fashion” declared Ross Brown, of Brown Brothers, speaking at the closing session of the 9th International Cool Climate Symposium in Hobart, Tasmania.
HAPPS believe that the southern extreme of Margaret River produces a distinctive and attractive Pinot Noir. Here is your chance to test that assertion. Light red with a red hue in colour.  The nose - A fruity aroma displaying strawberry, cranberry and cherry characters with hints of stalk, forest floor, fruit mince, candy and roses.  The strawberry and cranberry flavours carry on to the palate and combine with ripe cherry, rhubarb and hints of confectionary, fruit paste and spice. It’s a light to medium bodied wine that is generous in flavour, with subtle oak, soft acidity and attractive chalky tannin.

2017 HAPPS ‘iSeries’ Chenin Blanc
A fantastic wine for beach and BBQ’s, it is fresh & fruity and the slight sweetness is well matched with crisp acidity.
Chenin is a generous and well-behaved vine that still delivers when pruned very hard. Usually free of disease its only disadvantage is that the fruit is prone to sunburn and shrivel. It produces a simple elegant and appealing wine. This is an off-dry style which makes it a perfect pairing with creamy seafood, summer salads, poached pears and spicy Asian dishes. This wine is a clear, pale, golden straw in colour. Apples and pear greet the nose, followed by hints of lime, cumquat and sweet herbs. The fruit sweetness is wonderfully present and carries seamlessly through to the palate.

2016 HAPPS ‘FUCHSIA’ Rose
There is nothing else on the market that comes close to it in character.
Fuchsia is a HAPPS original. The uniqueness of this wine and of course its wide consumer appeal has made this style synonymous with ‘HAPPS’. By and large it is all sold in WA. Fuchsia is made without skin contact from predominantly red grape varieties. Because the colour pigments are located within the grape skin gentle pressing is required to yield light coloured juice. The result is a salmon pink colour. The wine has a perfumed aroma akin to roses, strawberry, fairy floss and fruit salad with hints of lychee, pear and fruit tingles.

 


 



WINDOWRIE WINES – CANOWINDRA (NSW)
 
Windowrie Estate is a leading Organic wine producer in NSW. Windowrie’s range of wines now comprises Certified Organic Wines, Preservative Free Wines and conventional wines.

Windowrie is one of the Cowra region’s founding winemakers. Established by the O’Dea family in 1988, the business experienced considerable success, allowing them to build a winery in 1999. Setting them apart from other NSW producers, the winery and vineyards were certified organic in 2008.

David and Wizz O'Dea are the founders of Windowrie Estate. David O'Dea completed a degree in Agriculture at Hawkesbury University in 1961. Wizz O'Dea began her life on a farm situated near the Hunter Valley and married David in 1964. Windowrie was purchased in 1959 and David and Wizz worked together in the production of various cereal crops.

The decision to diversify into grape growing in the 1980's dramatically changed the family's fortunes. The winery to this day remains firmly family run and operated, and from humble beginnings, Windowrie Estate now boasts the region's first winery and employs up to 45 people in casual labour and 14 people in full time labour.

Spoil yourself with a glass of this preservative free Shiraz. The wine-making really started in the vineyard for this wine. The nose has a big hit of ripe juicy black fruits with a huge amount of black pepper, clove, and vanilla spice. The flavours in the mouth are brooding, bustling, and lip smacking good, all in a similar profile to the aroma, with a silky smoothness which makes you reach for more.

The wine has had excellent reviews and sells well in the on and off premise sector, a definite must try.
