Purchaser's Information

Viewing
Every sale is open for viewing prior to the auction and we recommend that prospective buyers inspect the goods prior to purchase. Our staff will assist buyers with information on items being offered and are happy to advise on auction procedures. Each auction catalogue with viewing times is posted on this site prior to the auction date or call our offices on (02)9566 2377

Buyer's Premium
A Buyer's Premium of 20% will be charged on the hammer price of all lots purchased (GST exclusive).

Condition
Buyers should carefully inspect items and satisfy themselves as to the condition of each lot, as this is not necessarily stated in the catalogue. Attention is drawn to the Terms and Conditions of Auction Sale.

Pre-Sale Estimates
Pre-sale estimates appear in most catalogues and are intended as a guide to prospective purchasers as to the likely range within which bids may be successful, dependant on the competition for each lot. Reserves are always at or below the lower estimate as company policy.

Delivery & Payment
After an auction, all goods must be paid for and collected within two working days. Delivery of goods is subject to full payment, clearance of any cheques accepted, and confirmation of any licence or export requirements.

Absentee Bids
Lawsons will execute bids on behalf of clients who are unable to attend the auction. There is no charge for this service. Lots will be purchased as reasonably as possible, subject to other bids and reserve prices. In the event of identical bids being submitted, the first received will take precedence. Unlimited bids will not be accepted. Bids must be made on our absentee bid form, which is available from our rooms or you can click here to access the form now as a .pdf file. (Absentee Bid forms must be faxed or posted with the client's signature and received at least one hour prior to the commencement of the auction session. No responsibility is taken for bids received after this deadline)

Purchasers Information - Annandale Weekly auctions
A buyers premium of 20% (GST exclusive) will be added to the hammer price. Cash, Bank Cheque, Eftpos or Major Credit Cards accepted. Goods must be paid for in full by 12pm on the Monday following the auction sale. A processing fee of $5 per lot per day will be added to late invoices.

Glossary of Terms
Terms used may vary for different departments; if you are unsure of any reference, please see department staff for clarification.

Telephone Bids
Telephone bidding may be arranged on items of significant value subject to arrangements being made at least two hours prior to the auction with the relevant department. This is a limited service and subject to the number of telephone lines in use and telephone bids must be a minimum of $200.00. Please contact the relevant department for details.

Buyer Registration
All intending purchasers are required to register their name, address and telephone contact details to obtain a bidding number, including your ABN (Australian Business Number) where applicable. Please check with Lawsons reception or sale staff for the registration point for each auction. Post Office boxes and mobile phones are not sufficient for registration. New buyers will be asked for further identification such as a driving licence or passport details.

Cultural Heritage Act
Australia operates a Cultural Heritage Act to control the export of works thought to have or be of cultural significance. It is the responsibility of the purchaser to obtain the necessary permit prior to exportation.

Endangered Species
Items made of or incorporating animal material such as ivory, whale bone, tortoiseshell, etc, require a CITES permit prior to exportation.

Vendor's Information

Vendor's Commission
Commission is normally charged on the total (hammer price) value of sales between the vendor and the auctioneer.

For current rates on commission charges please contact the office directly.

In some instances, Lawsons conducts on-site auctions. These auctions are conducted in a similar manner to in-room auctions but incur different charges for the vendor.

In addition, the following charges are likely to apply:

Insurance
Included in the 19% vendor's commision is insurance coverage. 1.5% of the hammer price or reserve price which ever is the higher on all lots. This charge covers all items whilst under Lawsons' control against accidental damage and loss.


Advertising
Lawsons advertises in the auction columns of the
Sydney Morning Herald every Saturday, in addition to local and other papers including the Trading Post, Collectormania, Inner Western Courier, Blue Mountains Gazette and more.

Miscellaneous Charges
Additional services provided by Lawsons include customs clearance, gemmological testing, framing, restoration and storage. These services are carried out by agents under instruction from Lawsons and are charged to the client. Vendors will be advised prior to any charges being incurred.

Delivery of Goods to Lawsons
Lawsons can reccomend removalists and packers at the vendor's expense. Transit insurance can also be suggested. Lawsons do not offer a packing service in-house.

Payment to Vendors
Vendors at our Weekly Furniture and Effects sales will receive payment within Ten days. Settlement for other departments will be made within thirty five days of the sale. All payments are subject to receipt of monies from buyers.

Vendors Information - Annandale Weekly auctions
Deliveries can be made on Mondays & Tuesdays 8am to 5pm.
Cheques will be posted 7 days after the auction sale. Standard commission fee is 19%, GST excluded.
$10 administration fee applies per receipt

Once you have downloaded the file you will need to minimise your browser, install Acrobat, then restore your browser and return to this page by using your browser's Back button.

You can print the Absentee Bid Form, fill it out and fax (61 2 9566 2388) or post it to Lawsons. It is not possible to email it to Lawsons, as by law, it must be signed by the bidder.

However to register for on-line bidding please click on "Online Absentree Bids" in the main menu, you must register for Absentee bidding before making any absentee bids.
